The FloodLine Scheme - 08459 88 11 88

The FloodLine scheme is run by the Environment Agency, and the number to ring for information on the current situation is 08459 88 11 88.  Make a note of it now, just in case!  When you ring this number, you are connected to a computer system which will tell you the level of flood warning, if any, in your area.  You can either "drill down" through the menu which you will be presented with, or use a "quick dial" number.

Please note that these QuickDial numbers changed during on 8th August 2007. If you have old numbers written down, or programmed into your phone, change them now!

To use the quick dial number, ring the Environment Agency's FloodLine on 08459 88 11 88.  As soon as the call is answered, press 1 on your telephone.  You will hear a brief ringing tone, and then be invited to enter your QuickDial number, as given in the table below. You will then hear a recording of any warning which may be in force for that area.

Please see below for detailed definitions of the different areas.

Definitions of Flood Warning Levels

There are three levels of flood warning, plus the All Clear.  These are:

Flood Alert. This replaces "Flood Watch" from 30th November 2010.  A Flood Alert will indicate that flooding is possible and that you need to be prepared.

Flood Warning. This indicates that flooding is expected and that you should take immediate action.  You should take action when a Flood Warning is issued and not wait for a Severe Flood Warning.

Severe Flood Warning.  This will tell people that there is severe flooding and danger to life.  These will be issued only when flooding is posing significant risk to life or disruption to communities.

All Clear.  Flood Watches or Warnings are no longer in force for this area.
