The FloodLine Scheme
(the one where you phone them)
Floodline Warnings Direct
Floodline Warnings Direct replaces and extends the scheme known as Flood Warnings by Telephone. It is the UK's first integrated multi-channel warning system, providing flood warnings and information to the public, professional partners and the media across England and Wales. If you register for it, the Environment Agency will contact
you when a flood alert is issued. It can do this by telephone, or by fax, e-mail or SMS text message. (N.B. You must provide a 24-hour phone or fax number, but can choose additional options if you like.)
When a flood warning is issued for an area you have selected, the Environment Agency's computer will
ring your number and play a recorded warning message (or send a fax, if appropriate).
At the end of the message, you will be asked to press a key on your telephone
to confirm that you have heard it. If there is no reply, the system
will wait five minutes and ring again, and if necessary will try again
after another five minutes, before giving up.
To register for this free service, you can either ring the Environment Agency's FloodLine number (0845 988 1188) with your details or, if you live in the Lewes area,
you can fill out the form below, and your details will be e-mailed to
the Environment Agency.
If you have already registered for Flood Warnings by Telephone, you need do nothing; your details will be automatically transferred to the new system and you will receive warnings for the appropriate area.
You will automatically receive notification when either a Flood Warning or a Severe Flood Warning is issued for an area which you have selected. There is no longer an option to sign up for Flood Watch alerts. Alerts at this level are used for flooding to low-lying land and minor infrastructure. If you are a farmer or have an interest in the wider floodplain and want to register for Flood Watch alerts, please telephone FloodLine on 0845 988 1188 for advice.
